Happy Birthday Honey!

Mat's Birthday was yesterday!  He is now the ripe ol' age of 32!  Man, we are starting to get old around here!
We had a laid back night, full of pizza, swimming, and homemade cake roll.  Yes, you heard me right!  I made a homemade cake roll!  It is Mat's favorite and usually I buy him a Farr's Cake Roll.  However, those are very hard to come by down here!  So, I figured I could make one!

 Here is the cake roll.  I know, it doesn't look super!  However, it tasted delicious!  It was really hard to not have it completely fall apart when rolling it up!  Mat said it tasted really good and he was surprised that it really did taste like Farr's!  I was pretty proud of myself!
 Kat insisted on adding candles and singing 'Happy Birthday'!
Mat thought it would be funny to put the candles out with his fingers!  The girls were mortified!
 Then he proceeded to blow the other candles out with his nose!  Yup, I married a winner!
 And here is one more look at the yummy inside of the cake!
 Happy Birthday hon!
I love you so much and am so grateful to have you in my life!  You are a great daddy and hubby!
I hope this next year is a better year and that you have a great time being 32!
XOXOXOXOXOXO

9 years and counting!

April 11 was Mat and my 9 year anniversary!  Nine years ago we promised to love and cherish each other.  I love Mat more today than I ever thought possible!  He has given me so much!  He has given me two of the most important gifts ever - our girls!  He is my soul mate!  He makes me laugh everyday!  (Sometimes a good thing, sometimes kind of annoying!)

The past couple of years has made us closer, challening us in ways I never thought possible.  But, we did it together and we are still growing!  Things will never be easy, but when you have your best friend with you, it makes it a little better!
I love you babe!  Thank you for everything you do for me!

Mat changed his mind

Some of you might have heard by now. Mat has changed his mind. He has changed his major. Instead of focusing on the Travel and Tourism Industry, he will be going into Secondary Education.

Shocker! I know. Most people have been startled by the news. "Isn't that why you moved to Las Vegas?" "How do you feel about it!?!" "Why Education?" "But Mat loves to travel!"

I though maybe it would be good if I explained how I feel about all of this. Here goes. (Warning, I am not sure how long this post my end up. My apologies if you read it all and then are mad that you just spent forever reading it for no reason!)
When Mat and I started out on this journey of moving away, we were not sure exactly why. We had both had very strong witnesses from the Spirit that we were suppose to. At first, we didn't know where we would move to, only that we needed to change the direction our lives were headed. Not that anything was wrong with our life in Roy. We both just felt stuck, in a rut, like we needed a change. Somehow, Las Veags came to both of us in different ways. We knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that we were to move to Southern Nevada.

The easy answer to tell people when they asked why we were moving - school. It made sense - right? Mat loves the world, geography, travel. He would enroll at UNLV and study to go into the field of Travel and Tourism. The easy answer.

It may be part of the answer, but it is not the whole answer.

Our Heavenly Father guided us to Henderson. He guided us to be where we are. He has been the center of every decision we have made. He is the rest of the answer.

I may never know exactly why we are here. All I know is that we are happy. We are content. We love our new ward family and friends. We love the area we are in. (We love the warm weather and swimming all summer too!)
Yes, things have not happened how we hoped they would. It took Mat more than 5 months to find a job here. I have had to work more than I like. Kat had a rough start in school when we first moved here. We are struggling horribly trying to make ends meet and pay all of our bills. Despite all of that, we know we made the right choice. We are happy.

So, back to Mat's schooling. I am totally fine with him changing his major. Honestly! Yes, Mat loves the travel industry and all that it could provide for us. It could give us amazing opportunities. But, it is very demanding and crazy. His schedule would always be weird hours and very demanding. If you know Mat at all, he is a creature of habit. He likes to know what is going on well in advance and likes his days to be structured and the same day to day. To change his major to Education was a little surprising to me, but the more I thought about it the more it fits his personality and the goals he has in life. He can teach kids to love geography and the world like he does. That is his passion. He wants others to be passionate too.
Mat is changing his focus, yes. But he will still be doing what he loves - teaching others about the world. Just in a different kind of way!

We plan on staying here while he finishes his degree at UNLV (Bachelor's Degree). After that, I guess we'll see! We have a lot of praying to do and see what the Spirit guides us to next. Hopefully we will make our way back to Northern Utah and he can find a job there. Then he can finish off school (Masters) at a Utah University.

Yup, Mat changed his mind. I think he will make a great teacher!

Shhhh.....It's not 'official' yet!

I have to give my hubby the props that he deserves! He got a promotion! Yay!!! After only being with the company since April, he is movin' on up! He will now be a QA (Quality Assurance Agent) instead of customer service.
He has been working crappy hours, and for pretty crappy pay. But he has hung in there and proven to the company that he is an asset to them! He beat out a lot of people that had been there for a while!
He gets a small raise, and better hours! YAY!!!
It is not 'official' yet. No one except the managers know, and he doesn't have his new hours yet, but I am so excited for him! Working nights and weekends has been hard on all of us, so it will be nice to have 'normal' schedules again!
We will keep you all posted on any new updates!

Happy Birthday, Hon!

Today is Mat's Birthday and he is turning 31!
I wanted him to know how much I love him
and I am so grateful for having him in my life!
Here are some of the things I love about him:
~~~
He is still just a big kid at heart!
(No child was injured in the making of this post! They were playing around! I promise!)
~~~

He doesn't take life too seriously! (Seriously!)

~~~
He is my best friend and the love of my life!
~~~
He puts up with me and my family!!! And all of our 'fun' adventures!

~~~
He would do anything for the girls.
He loves taking them to new places an teaching them about the world.
He goes on rides that make him sick (Dumbo) and rides he wouldn't want to be caught dead on (Pooh Bear) and puts his oldest daughter on his shoulders after a long day, just so she can see the show!
And misses them when we are away from them!
~~~
He is an amazing Daddy!

~~~
~~~
There are many more reasons that I love him. He puts up with my moods and comforts me when I need him. He works sooo hard so that we can have a good life. He is smart and loves teaching the girls new things! He has an amazing testimony and love of the Gospel. He strengthens me when I need it the most!
~
I love you, hon! I know life isn't exactly as we thought it would be right now, but we are where we are suppose to be. Thank you for all you do for me! I hope you enjoy your Birthday!
love ya!

The Best Hubby Ever

So, a few weeks ago I had the worst week ever.

It all started when I had to go into the dentist and get a crown. That crown came loose and got infected (I guess that's what happened!) Well, unfortunately, my dentist was out of town for the whole week and so I couldn't have anything done about it.
While I was in agony over my throbbing tooth, I burned my arm on the top heating element in the oven.
Then, one day during the week it was raining and I was running into the house so I wouldn't get wet with Emma. I slipped and fell on the stairs, bruising my knee cap and Emma hit her head on the cement. Luckily Emma was alright and I only had a limp for a few days...
Then I went to the doctor to get a flu shot, which made me sick, really sick!
By the end of the week my dentist had made an appointment for a root canal. Yup, a root canal. But by this point, I was EXCITED to get a root canal 'cause I knew it wouldn't be as bad as the pain from the infection!
Needless to say, I was miserable in so many ways! Mat felt bad, I could tell cause he helped out around the house and all that kind of good stuff! Then, one day I came home and found these on the table......

Two Dozen Beautiful Red Roses!

Mat bought me roses! He hasn't bought me roses for a long time, so it was a very sweet thing to do. It was a little funny because when I got home they were in a blue plastic pitcher because he didn't know where any vases were! Cute!

Anyway, he surprised me and made me feel very lucky to have him around!
Thanks hun! I love you!
( I know it is a lot of pics of roses, but I thought they looked cool with the flash of my camera, kind of like they were glowing, or fluorescent. Plus, I do need to document Mat's sweetness!)
